What Women Don’t Want

April 3, 2018 by ashwini 16 Comments

Patriarchy, Misogyny, Bigotry
No it is the ignorance silly that makes us angry.
‘Oh no don’t say angry, we don’t want to be known as crazy’
Ha! No more gaslighting or other means to make us doubt our own sanity!
‘Women don’t know what they want. They’re so flaky.’
Just one of those things that make us go -Why so judgy?
So here’s a list of things that we don’t want. Listen carefully.
Blame it on cultural conditioning if none of it makes sense to thee.
We don’t want rules and boundaries
We don’t always want the pressure of being a good girl or a lady
We don’t want to be superwomanly
Sometimes we just want to be lazy.
We don’t want to be pigeon-holed as pretty, hot or sexy
We don’t want to be judged for anything but our abilities
We don’t want to miss any opportunity
Just because we got married and had a baby
We don’t want to be ignored or put down needlessly
We don’t want to deal with any biases while ascending corporate hierarchy
We don’t want to work just because we need pocket money
We don’t want to quit work just to fulfill familial duties
We don’t want to do anything just to please the society
We don’t want to be told what should be our priorities
We don’t want to be groped or touched inappropriately
We don’t want our safety to be only our responsibility
We don’t want to be pressured into suffering abuse silently
We don’t want to be doubted when we report it regretfully
We don’t want big gestures, just some empathy
We don’t want reservation, just inclusivity
In this world that is talking about big things like gender fluidity
We don’t want anything more than being able to express our identity
We don’t want to piss off anyone majorly
But we also don’t want to lose our mental stability
We may raise our voice but don’t want complete anarchy
We just don’t want unfairness and hence are pursuing equality

Heartbreak

March 4, 2012 by ashwini No Comments

Khushi dene se katrae,
Gum hazaar kyoon dete ho?
Dil ki aawaaz na suni na sahi,
Aankhon ki nami nahin dekhte ho?
Sapnon ka pul bandha tha…
Toont gaya achanak.
Unhi toonte sapnon ka sahara hai..
Par kab tak…kahaan tak?
Kahaan shuru hui thi kahaani,
Aur kahaan hui khatm,
Mulakaton se humne socha pyaar badha.
Pyar toh tha hi nahin, tha bas veham
Takleef nahin hai hamein koi
Haste, hasate toh hum ab bhi hain,
Bas toonte dil ki dararon se,
Khoon tapakta hai.

Romance

March 30, 2010 by ashwini 2 Comments

Moonlight and candles,
Roses and tulips,
Long drives and dinners,
A sweet kiss on her lips.

A new dress and earrings,
Long walks together,
Letters and poems,
A birthday cake baked for her.

Sharing stories and troubles,
Missing being with her,
Being worried and concerned,
Feeling sorry when you upset her.

Waiting for her call,
Not knowing what to say,
Fumbling for the right words,
And saving them for another day.

Being nice to her friends,
Wishing her Goodnight,
Making her childhood dream come true,
Making sure she knows he is Mr. Right.

Guys say they don’t know how to,
But boy when they get it right…
They realize the power of romance.
Girls just dig guys who are nice!

(Sigh…waiting for my nice romantic guy!)

Baring My Soul

October 16, 2008 by ashwini 2 Comments

There are dreams and passions
Images and thoughts
Maybe’s and could be’s
Should be’s and cannots

Freedom and restraint
Ecstasy and pain
Approvals and denials
Promises and betrayals

Madness and chaos
Peace and sanity
Prayers and hope
Terror and inhumanity

Praises and smiles
Colours and dull brown
Friendships and acquaintances
Deceit and let down’s

Conflicting ideas
Myriad of emotions
Inspired and searching within
On the path to transformation?

Says who?

November 8, 2006 by ashwini 2 Comments

When they said you should quit
You hung on
When they said you shouldnt
You moved on

It was not what they said
It was why
The reasons were scary
You wish reality was a lie

You dont suddenly lose hope
But when you find yourself hollow
You know how everything’s changed
Its inevitable – the sorrow

You pray for light
You pray for intervention
When there is none
You scream for redemption

You think you’re down and out
In the deepest and darkest of holes
Its too hard to come out
Its too hard- you know you wont!

Says who??!!??
